BPAO’s Third Annual Golf Fundraiser Brings Together Community, Competition, and Care

On Sunday, September 21st, 2025, the Black Physicians’ Association of Ontario (BPAO) hosted its Third Annual Golf Fundraiser Tournament, bringing together golfers, families, and community members for an afternoon of connection, friendly competition, and celebration.

The day began with brunch from 13 SUNS Ethiopian Café & Eatery, a local Black-owned restaurant in Scarborough, giving participants a chance to gather, enjoy a meal, and catch up with colleagues and friends. After brunch, players teed off in the afternoon under clear skies. Golfers of all levels embraced the course, cheering each other on, enjoying the friendly competition, and connecting over their shared support for the BPAO Medical Learners Program.

The celebration continued into the evening with a dinner reception, where guests reflected on the day’s highlights and raised their paddles for an engaging auction. Friendly competition carried into the door prize draws, which helped raise additional funds for a meaningful cause.

Proceeds from the tournament support BPAO’s Medical Learners Program, which is designed to bridge the gap between medical training and career success. Through this program, learners receive mentorship, scholarships, bursaries, and targeted programming, including networking events, CaRMS mock interviews, webinars, and mock NAC OSCE sessions. These opportunities prepare medical students, residents, and fellows to excel and connect with mentors and role models across specialties.

The evening closed with recognition of the top teams and a shared sense of accomplishment that went beyond the tournament results. The event was a celebration of community, generosity, and commitment to supporting the next generation of Black physicians.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every golfer, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who made this year’s fundraiser possible. Your contributions help ensure that Black medical learners continue to have the mentorship, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.

A special thank-you to our sponsors: MV5 Developments, Sun Life, Thomas Fraim Law, Ode Toronto, Farm Boy, Nujual, Purdys Chocolatier, Lindt, AGO, Rosemary Sadlier, and Brampton on Stage. Your partnership allows BPAO to continue building meaningful programming and advancing equity in healthcare.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another unforgettable day on the greens.
