Statement on Leadership Transition

The Board of Directors of the Black Physicians' Association of Ontario announces that Chenai Kandugure has concluded her tenure as Executive Director of the organization.

On behalf of BPAO, the Board extends its sincere gratitude to Chenai for her dedication, leadership, and contributions during her time with the organization. Through her vision and commitment, Chenai helped strengthen BPAO's impact and position the organization as a recognized leader in advancing health equity for Black communities across Ontario. She played an instrumental role in building and growing an organization that Black physicians and medical learners can turn to for support, mentorship, advocacy, connection, and leadership development.

Her leadership helped shape BPAO during a significant period of growth and evolution, strengthening the organization's profile, partnerships, and influence across the healthcare sector. We thank Chenai for her service and commitment to our mission and wish her every success in her future endeavors.

As Chenai's tenure comes to a close, BPAO enters a new chapter of leadership and organizational growth. The Board remains committed to building on the strong foundation that has been established while advancing the organization's mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability.

To ensure continuity during this transition, Keneisha Stone has been appointed Interim Executive Director. Keneisha currently serves as BPAO's Director of Sponsorships and Strategic Partnerships, where she has played a key role in strengthening relationships with sponsors and partners, advancing strategic initiatives, and supporting the organization's growth and sustainability. Throughout her involvement with BPAO, Keneisha has demonstrated a strong commitment to the organization's mission and has been instrumental in cultivating partnerships that expand opportunities for Black physicians and medical learners.

Her deep understanding of BPAO's operations, stakeholder relationships, and strategic priorities positions her well to lead the organization during this transition. In her role as Interim Executive Director, Keneisha will work closely with the Board, members, partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to ensure continuity of operations, maintain momentum on key initiatives, and continue advancing BPAO's mission.

The board in the coming months will initiate a search for BPAO's next executive  director,  who will lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting Black physicians and medical learners, advancing health equity, and strengthening the health and well-being of Black communities across Ontario.

We are grateful for the continued trust, engagement, and support of our members, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters as we move forward together.
